Treyarch always did go one better than “other Call of Duty developers” when it came to multiplayer stats and leaderboards. With Black Ops they are taking it to the next level, calling what they have done “our most aggressive leaderboard effort to date”. That means we can expect all of the goodness that World at War gave us in the stats department (heatmaps FTW), along with a slew of new stuff including the way stats are sorted.
Recently in a post on the CoD forums, Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar revealed a brand-new system for the leaderboards; they will be sorted on a score-per-minute average basis. This, amongst other things, will mean that people who play objective modes and actually capture objectives will be rewarded.
Lobby leaderboard and game mode specific leader boards return.
Leaderboards are now sorted on Score per minute averages (which will reward objective mode players better for taking objectives and not just getting kills).
Game mode objective show Score per minute followed by key game mode stats. For example, in Search and Destroy it’s Plants, Defuse, and Defends.
We also have weekly, monthly, and all time variants each with a minimum game played (5, 25, and 50, respective) requirements to be listed on the board.
It’s our most aggressive leaderboard effort to date.

Improved stats and leaderboards is yet another feature in the ever-growing list that Treyarch are adding to Black Ops in order to ensure that it is a well rounded first-person shooter. I, for one, can’t freakin’ wait.
